Tom tries out Rubicon Skate Camp

One day when it was too late to skate I was surfing the web and I found a web sit about Rubicon Skate Camps. I had heard that the Rubicon skate camps were really good. They are the only 5 day residential skate camps in the country. I decided to see how good they are.

My parents booked me in for the camp from 10th to 14th August 2009. This was a mixed camp for both boys and girls. I was dropped off at the Rough Close camp site in Coventry. We stayed in a log cabin with room for 18 people in 3 bunk rooms. The cabin also had a kitchen and a TV for showing awesome skate videos. For breakfast we had cereal or toast and for lunch we went to a shop wherever we were at the time and our instructors bought us food. Some evenings we ate out.

Each day we visited different skate parks including Stoke On Trent Plaza, The Works, Rampworx Park, Epic Skate Park, The Boardroom and a skatepark at Burton on Trent. We went to outdoor and indoor parks. If the weather had been bad we would have done more of the indoor ones. The indoor skateparks had great sound systems and we had lots of music on the minibus that took us around.

Our instructors (Geoff, Lucy and Lois) were friendly and helpful. I improved my skills, (rock to fakie, nose grab, tail stall etc.) and I made lots of new friends. We were all tired by the end of the week when we were dropped off in Winchester. I really enjoyed skate camp and would recommend it to other young skateboarders.
