Possible skate park sites in Finchampstead?

We suggested several possible sites for a skate facility in Finchampstead (see below).

The parks department and Parish council considered all the sites and chose the Gorse Ride site.

California Country Park

The area of land near the car park and 'California Dreaming' cafe in California Country Park.

The old tennis courts in California Country Park.

California Country Park Pros And Cons:

Pros:

1) The park is already a site for recreational activity.

2) The site has a car park, toilet facilities and cafe.

3) California Country Park has family-based activities that can be used by some while other family members use the skate park.

4) There may be room on site for a pro-skate shop.

Cons:

1) The park is not easy to reach by foot.

2) The park closes early.

3) Building a skate park may conflict with conservation work in the park.

Gorse Ride Community Centre

The field by the new Gorse Ride Community Centre - our preferred site.

Gorse Ride Community Centre Pros And Cons:

Pros:

1) The site is already planned to have other recreational activities.

2) The site will have a car park, toilet facilities and cafe.

3) The skate park would be easily monitored because people would be using other facilities nearby.

4) Gorse Ride Community Centre will have other family-based activities that can be used by some while other family members use the skate park.

5) The site is in the middle of a well-populated area of Finchampstead.

6) The site is easily accessible by foot and has a bus route nearby.

7) Many of the people who have signed the skate park petition live on the estates nearby.

8) The site is level with easy access by road for builders' vehicles.

Cons:

1) Although the site is in a well populated area it is not easy to reach from the outskirts of the village.

2) Nearby residents may be worried about the potential noise from a skate park (a concrete skate park would produce lower noise levels than other types).

Waverley Park

Waverley Park adjacent to the children's playground (not on the football pitches).

Waverley Park Pros And Cons:

Pros:

1) The site is in Finchampstead.

2) There is a playing field where other recreational activities take place on occasions.

3) The site is near a well-populated area of Finchampstead.

4) The site is easily accessible by foot.

Cons:

1) Although the site is near a well populated area it is not easy to reach from the outskirts of the village.

2) Nearby residents may be worried about the potential noise from a skate park (a concrete skate park would produce lower noise levels than other types).

3) The small size of the site limits the potential of the skate park.

4) The access for builders' vehicles is poor.

5) There are no toilets or cafe on the site.

6) Car parking is very restricted.

7) The site is not easy to monitor because of the lack of other activities taking place nearby.

Finchampstead Memorial Park

Finchampstead Memorial Park Pros And Cons:

Pros:

1) The site is in Finchampstead.

2) There is a playing field where other recreational activities take place.

3) A skate park would bring a facility to the village where there is little available for teenagers.

4) The site has toilets and a restricted car park.

Cons:

1) Although the site is within Finchampstead village it is not easy to reach for people living in the more densely populated parts of the Parish.

2) Nearby residents may be worried about the potential noise from a skate park (a concrete skate park would produce lower noise levels than other types).

3) A skate park might detract from the quieter activities that already take place in the park.

4) There is no cafe on site.

5) Car parking is restricted.
